Electrical breakdown in Thick-GEM based WELL detectors

Abstract The occurrence of electrical discharges in gas detectors restricts their dynamic range and degrades performance. Among the different methods developed to mitigate discharge effects, use resistive materials detector assembly was found be very effective. In this work, we present results a comparative study Thick-GEM-based WELL-type — with without elements. We new method measure resistive-detector configurations; it allows demonstrating, for first time, also Resistive-Plate WELL configuration. It provides direct evidence Raether limit.
